Ku-Ring-Gai Veterinary Hospital has pioneered the use of regenerative stem cell therapies for the treatment of arthritis in dogs. We have set the gold standard for care in this field to the extent that the techniques we have developed have now been adopted for application in human care. Animals suffering arthritis have been successfully treated by taking a small amount of their own fat which is subsequently purified and injected back into a damaged joint.
Due to its complex nature and higher level skills and equipment required, this procedure is exclusively performed at Ku-Ring-Gai Veterinary Hospital by Dr Angus Ross and Dr Jamie Geddes, senior veterinary partners and developers of the regenerative processes.
This process involves many advances in veterinary medicine and surgery including the use of minimally invasive liposuction for fat harvesting through to CAT scan guided transplantation to ensure minimal invasion and the highest levels of accuracy. We have also treated by far the most patients with the Adicell procedure, now close to two hundred patients over the last four years, with a response rate of over 70% in terms of marked improvement in quality of life, movement, range of motion of joints and pain control.
Our journey of discovery over the last four years has led us to realise the number of underdiagnosed dogs with presumed arthritis in the community. We therefore provide a comprehensive review of total patient health before making a determination as to the suitability of the procedure. This way we can be sure that candidates receive the benefits of traditional therapies as appropriate, and that no aspect of complete care is overlooked.
The process includes the following:
- Full physical examination
- Complete blood and urinalysis testing
- General anaesthetic and intravenous fluid therapy
- Diagnostic imaging including digital Xrays and 3D helical CT scan
- Fat harvesting, processing and implantation
- Complete pain management and postoperative medications
- Followup consultations
Pricing from $2500.
We genuinely believe that this process provides a unique and powerful opportunity for caring owners
to make a significant difference to the happiness and quality of their pets lives.
